Keeping Luck Alive

I have had a little bit of luck lately. Well, I guess it is luck but it could equally be described as the result of my chosen actions.

An aquantance I have kept in contact with needs his dog which is still living in Yokohama. Dogs are very expensive to send on their own, so I will be traveling with his dog to the US. His benifit: a cheaper flight for his dog. My benifit: a free flight to the US.

This is one of those times in life when I remember the old phrase, "It's not what you know but who you know that counts."

Oh Japan...

Sometimes I really enjoy living in Japan. Sometimes I don't. It is a strange mix of feelings that only those who have lived here a good deal of time feel.

One friend lives here and loves it! He can never see himself going back to the US. Another friend grew to hate Japan, and now continues hating it but in a different country.

So where am I in all of this? It's hard to say because I don't think words could accurately show my feelings. Please let my lack of words paint a picture for you.

But heck, all-in-all my life is good. I have more than the bare essentials for life, and for that I am content (most of the time). I am less content with my own holes as a human. I have some flaws in my character I wish I could change, and so I continue to try. Changing yourself is a very difficult
task. Battling all the layers of comfort and habit to form a new person is... not easy. I hope I can become a person who enjoys working harder than I do now.

With that, I've got to meet some friends. See ya!
